Coach Matt Stern
Coaching Philosophy:
Coach Stern considers his coaching style to be very aggressive. He prides himself and his players being fundamentally sound in order to have flawless technique. Coach Stern believes that the best way to play defense is to dictate the tempo of the opponent’s offense by attacking the opponent’s offense at their fundamental weaknesses. Coach Stern advises his players to work hard to progress at their craft and to “get better with every rep”.
Education
Coach Stern graduated from San Diego State University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with emphasis in Health, Nutrition and Fitness. Coach Stern is currently enrolled at Azusa Pacific University pursuing his M.A. in Physical Education. He utilizes his education in his coaching methods to teach proper body mechanics to athletes while performing sport specific drills.
Coaching Experience:
Coach Stern started his coaching career at Grossmont High School in El Cajon, CA in 2002. He helped the Foothillers to multiple Conference Championships as their Defensive Line coach and was an integral part of coordinating the defense during his tenure. Coach Stern coached with Grossmont High School from 2002-2005.
Coach Stern continues his coaching career at Grossmont Community College in 2006 as the Griffins Defensive Line Coach. Coach Stern helped the Griffins to a Conference Championship in 2006 continuing into the California State JC playoffs where the Griffins eventually lost a close game to the Bakersfield Renegades in the State Semi-Finals. Coach Stern has coached several players who have gone on to be successful at the major university level. Coach Stern has players formerly or currently attending Utah State University, University of Kansas and Texas A&M University. Coach Stern currently coaches at Grossmont Community College.
